Dirt Mound

This mound is more or less surrounded by muskeg, but it clearly is not covered in pete. It makes me wonder how it came to rise above the muskeg around it and why it has been dug up. There were a number of deer tracks in the dirt, so perhaps the deer have played a part in keeping it bare. It's also possible that it is due to human action, although I am not sure what or why.
