When I checked on the bird later in the evening, it seemed to be quite a bit better, and it really wanted nothing to do with me. It did not seem able to fly very well. It was able to make a controlled descent to the carport floor where it hopped away from me and did its best to hide in a corner. The next morning it was gone and there was no evidence that it had been eaten, so perhaps it regained its strength and was able to fly away.
