Jonathan and a Disfigured Tree

We were not sure what might have ripped up the tree seen here. Given the other signs of bear activity in the area a bear seemed like a reasonable guess, but there was nothing that was obvious to me that confirmed that suspicion. We also considered that it might have been a deer rubbing the velvet off its antlers.

Location: Indian River Valley, Sitka, Alaska
