Spring Seaweed

Spring apparently comes to the ocean as well. It has been a couple of weeks since I was last at the beach here and in that time I have noticed a significant difference in the amount of seaweed on the shore, especially the leafy kinds seen here. I wonder if the herring spawning has anything to do with the seaweed growth (perhaps by providing extra nutrients).
