Red Villous Cinquefoil Bud
Potentilla villosa

I noticed a deep red coloring on some of the petals of a number of different cinquefoil plants. It looked like the red may have appeared on parts of the petal that were exposed first as the bud was opening up. This leads me to suspect an external factor in the red coloring.
