This species is adapted to grow in a low light environment. When looked at, it 'glows' in the manner of a bicycle reflector. I think this is due to the optical characteristics of cells that concentrate the light to more efficiently make use of what is available.

Location: Verstovia Trail, Sitka, Alaska
