Black-bellied Plovers
Pluvialis squatarola

I moved to where the beach was fairly narrow and waited. The birds had gone a little further up around a bend, but there was not much beach there where they could feed, so they came back towards me a short time later. At this point they were not sure what to do. They came as close as they were comfortable with, and just stood on the rocks waiting. Eventually they flew across the bay.
