(Scene one: Mr. Thopson coming home from a long day at work.)

Mr. Thompson: Honey, I'm home.

Mrs.Thompson: How was your day at work?

Mr. Thompson: Oh it was okay, but I'm hungry, lets eat.

Narrator: As they were eating, Mr. Thompson brought up the subject of Christmas trees.

Mr. Thompson: Let's go get a tree tomorrow since its a Saturday.

Jane and Tom: Yeah!

Mrs. Thompson: Well that sounds like a good idea. I have a meeting at nine, so let's go after lunch.

(Scene two: The Thompsons are out in the woods chopping down a small tree.)

Narrator: AFter the tree fell down the Thompson family thought they heard a sound.

Mr. Thompson: Did you hear something? It sounded like ouch.

Jane: Yeah . . . Well, kind of. It must have just been the wind.

Narrator: They all figured it was just the wind. Then they walked home singing Christmas carols all the way.

(Scene three: The Thompsons are decorating their tree.)

Mr. Thompson: Who said that? I know I heard someone say this is heavy.

Narrator: From somewhere near the tree there came a quiet bass voice, it said:

Joe: I did, my name is Joe

Mr Thompson: Who are you and what are you doing here?!

Joe: I am the tree you are putting a bunch of heavy lights on. Although I am thoroughly honored that you thought I was bearutiful enough to be your Christmas tree, I am kind of thirsty.

Tom: Wowsers! A talking tree! I'll go get some water.

Narrator: As Tom was getting some water Jane and Joe were the only ones talking because Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were speechless. After Tom brought back the water, Joe told them his life story while they finished decorating him. The Thompsons and Joe decided it would be better not to tell anyone about him or they might do a bunch of tests on him. In the week following they had fun playing games together. Finally, it was Christmas morning. Tom and Jane got up early because they were so excited.

Jane: Oh, wow! I got a set of Barbie Dolls!

Tom: Well I got a set of Cowboys and Indians, so there!

Mrs. Thompson: Kids, kids, don't fight, it's Christmas.

Mr. Thompson: Joe, we gott you the est present of all. We will let you go wherever you want and we'll pay.

Joe: That's might nice of you but I'd be content living in your back yard!

Narrator: So after Christmas the Thompsons planted Joe in their back yard. And they all prospered and lived happily ever after.
