Paintbrush

As best I can tell, this is a bad picture of an unalaska paintbrush (Castilleja unalaschcensis). The white stuff at the base of the some of the leaves is what we called bug spit when I was younger. I am not exactly sure what it is, but I think it may have something to do with the reproductive process of some insect.
