Two Shades of Paintbrush --(Castilleja miniata) (41730 bytes)

Two Shades of Paintbrush
Castilleja miniata

The common name for C. miniata is scarlet paintbrush, however it seems that the color can vary significantly from yellow to red. The reason I believe these are C. miniata rather than C. hispida or C. angustifolia (which are the two other paintbrushes listed for Kamiak Butte) is lack of lobes on most of the leaves.

Location: Kamiak Butte, Washington

Previous: Early Blue Violet (Viola adunca)
Next: Yellow Harsh Paintbrush (Castilleja hispida)
