Juvenile Varied Thrush
Ixoreus naevius

A second or two after I took the previous picture, the bird flew off. I watched it try to land on the trunk of a standing tree with no luck before flying off further. As I tried to walk quietly towards where I thought it landed, I noticed two varied thrushes on a log. One of them flew off very soon after I spotted them, but the other one (the one I had been trying to follow, it turned out) allowed me to approach. I was able to get close enough so I could see the remains of downy feathers. This lead me to conclude that this bird was a fledgling.
