White Alpine Azalea
Loiseleuria procumbens

The alpine azalea is a matted or trailing evergreen shrub with bell shaped flowers that are pink or white. It often forms a ground mat on well drained rocky sites in arctic and alpine tundra. It ranges throughout Alaska except for on the northern coastal plain.

This picture was taken near Baby Bear Lake on 24 June 98 while hiking the ridge above Starrigavan.
